Explaining The Universe on Instagram: "Walking on the Moon is unlike anything on Earth because the Moon’s gravity is only about one-sixth as strong. When astronauts step off the lunar module, they don’t walk normally—they move in a loping, bouncing gait, almost like slow motion hopping. This happens because their weight is much lower, but their mass (and inertia) stays the same, making quick starts and stops difficult. The surface itself adds to the challenge. Lunar soil, called regolith, is mad
