NASA's Suni Williams — one of two astronauts stuck for months at the International Space Station — has retired.

For the 1st time in the history of the International Space Station, an astronaut experienced a health issue that required NASA to end a mission early.

Astronaut Suni Williams left NASA late last month after 27 years of service. She spent a total of 608 days in space, more than all but one other American astronaut.

NASA observed its annual Day of Remembrance Thursday to commemorate the astronauts killed in the Apollo 1 and space shuttle Challenger and space shuttle Columbia accidents.
