Iowa weather: Dangerously cold wind chills settle in for the end of the week
Iowa isn't receiving the brunt of the winter storm sweeping across the nation, but it's cancelling flights and bringing some snow to southern part of the state.
High winds and extreme cold will settle into Iowa, the NWS warns. Here's when to expect the coldest temperatures.
DES MOINES, Iowa – Brutally cold conditions have arrived in central Iowa, and it’s going to stay cold for the weekend. Snow chances also enter the forecast for Saturday. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect until noon for all of central Iowa.
An Arctic blast is set to grip Iowa later this week, bringing some of the coldest temperatures of the season.
Iowans will have to contend with extreme arctic cold and dangerous wind chills Friday.
Clouds should push south out of the state in time for any northern lights sightings in Iowa. Much of the state, particularly in the stronger viewing areas in northern Iowa, will have clear skies around midnight Tuesday. In central Iowa, areas around Des Moines will see about 20% sky cover.
