Historic Highway 1 closure ends as road to Big Sur reopens

FILE: Caltrans had blocked out travel distances to Big Sur and Monterey on a road sign for travelers headed north on Highway 1 near Cambria, Calif., March 4, 2024. Wet weather persisted, but at the end of the first week of January, word spread that they were getting very close to the historic reopening.
